Data & Studies: the evidence behind every route

It's not just how much you take, it's how much gets there. Below: the peer-reviewed evidence behind each route — sublingual, transdermal and mucosal — and behind each product, with every source linked next to the claim it supports.

The science behind our absorption routes

At The Everyday Lab everything starts from one idea: it's not just how much you take, it's how much gets there. An oral supplement goes through the digestive system and the liver, where it loses much of its value before reaching the bloodstream. The routes we use — sublingual, transdermal and mucosal — skip that step.

Below is the evidence behind each route and each formula, with its sources, so you know exactly what every product is based on.

Certifications: ISO 13485:2016 (patch manufacturer) · FSSC 22000 (manufacturer) · Manufactured in an FDA-registered facility (establishment registration, not product approval).

Sublingual route — liquid collagen

The mucosa under the tongue absorbs straight into the bloodstream, avoiding first-pass liver metabolism. That is why the sublingual route reaches up to 80% uptake, compared with about 25% for powders and capsules (Sublingual drug delivery, National Library of Medicine).

In one published case, giving a drug with high liver metabolism sublingually raised its blood concentration by 314% to 361% compared with the oral route (NLM). That study is not about collagen: it shows how the route behaves, not the result of our product.

Product: The Liquid Collagen Boost — sublingual drops.

Transdermal route — our patches

A patch releases its actives gradually through the skin, without going through the digestive system. That allows up to 80% uptake compared with about 25% for a pill, plus sustained release over hours (Transdermal Medications, NIH).

The transdermal route is a proven medical technology: nicotine patches, hormonal contraceptive patches and scopolamine patches for motion sickness all work through this same route. Small molecules cross the skin and reach the bloodstream without being broken down in the digestive system; what varies is each molecule, not the method. That is why our formulas work with small-molecule actives — and why a patch does not replace an oral supplement if you have a diagnosed deficiency.

Bioadhesion and sustained release. A potent active loses its value if it doesn't stay where it acts. Our patches and our gel use bioadhesive polymers and transdermal matrices that release their actives in a controlled way over hours, instead of all at once.

Mucosal route — collagen gel

The vaginal mucosa is one of the most absorptive tissues in the body and completely bypasses the digestive system. That is why this route reaches up to 99% absorption compared with about 25% for a capsule (Absorption from the vagina, NLM).

That figure describes the route of administration. It does not come from a clinical trial of our finished product.

Product: The Ultimate Collagen Boost — vaginal collagen gel.

Structural regeneration — collagen I and III

We don't aim for surface hydration. Our collagen products provide the structural building blocks the extracellular matrix needs to regain density, in both skin and intimate mucosa. Research on vaginal tissue links changes in collagen I and III with the reversal of tissue atrophy (NLM).

Products: The Ultimate Collagen Boost and The Liquid Collagen Boost.

Menstrual Heat Patch — local heat for cramps

Across our whole catalog, this is the strongest evidence. In a clinical trial, continuous low-level topical heat was superior to acetaminophen for menstrual pain, with less fatigue and fewer mood changes (NLM). A systematic review with meta-analysis found favorable effects both against placebo and against pain relievers (NLM).

Heat increases local blood flow, relaxes the uterine muscles and modulates pain perception. Our patch activates on contact with air, provides heat for 5 hours and goes over your underwear, never directly on the skin. Product: The Menstrual Heat Patch.

Anti-Nausea Motion Sickness Patch — ginger and botanicals

Ginger, one of the 8 herbal ingredients in the patch, is one of the best-studied ingredients for nausea. A review of 14 studies with 1,417 participants found lower nausea severity and less need for rescue antiemetics, with mild and infrequent side effects (NLM).

Those studies evaluate oral ginger, not transdermal. What they support is the ingredient; the route is supported separately, above. Products: Anti-Nausea Motion Sickness Patch and for Kids (ages 3+).

Recharge Sleeping Patch — transdermal melatonin

There is specific literature on melatonin delivered transdermally, not just orally: pharmacokinetic studies show that delivery through the skin sustains levels throughout the night, and that application time changes the profile (NLM, NLM).

Let's be clear about what it does and doesn't do: melatonin helps you fall asleep sooner and stay asleep; it is not a sedative and won't knock you out. Our patch provides 2.5 mg of melatonin and goes on 30 minutes before bed. Product: The Recharge Sleeping Patch.

Cool-ing Patch — local cold therapy

In a randomized controlled trial, localized cooling reduced pain by 31.8% at 30 minutes, compared with a 31.5% increase in the control group (NLM). Cold activates the TRPM8 channels of sensory nerves, slows nerve conduction and acts as a counterirritant.

The available studies use small samples and apply cold to the neck or forehead. Products: The Cool-ing Patch and for Kids.

The Kefir Pill — kefir in a capsule

Kefir is not an ordinary probiotic: it contains lactic acid bacteria and yeasts, and that combination is what sets it apart. A review of 28 human clinical trials gathers what has been measured about its consumption (NLM), and a systematic review of human interventional studies evaluates it as a microbiota modulator (NLM). Not every culture colonizes the same way — the response depends on the person and on the matrix — which is why kefir, with bacteria and yeasts, is not the same as a probiotic of isolated strains (NLM).

For kefir and probiotics the right metric is not absorption, it's viability: how many cultures reach the gut alive. Without protection, most die within the first minutes at gastric pH. The literature on controlled freeze-drying and delayed-release capsules supports that mechanism (NLM). In our capsule, 85% to 90% of the cultures reach the gut viable. Product: The Kefir Pill.

Multi-Vitamin Patch — the same route, small-molecule actives

The Multi-Vitamin Patch uses the same proven transdermal route described above to deliver 11 vitamins across the day, without passing through the stomach. There is specific research on patches for micronutrients (NLM).

If you have a diagnosed vitamin deficiency, a patch is not the solution. Talk to your doctor. Product: The Multi-Vitamin Patch.

About results

Visible changes in skin, hair and nails with collagen are usually noticed from week 6 of consistent use. Collagen can contribute, but it doesn't make up for a poor diet or skipping sunscreen. Results may vary from person to person.
